Building Sustainability; Greenhouse Project

September 09, 2017

This year mission teams arrived at Point of Grace with a focus on projects that will help to produce crops and animals that will feed the children as well as using excess amounts to raise money for the school.

Thanks to the members of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Avon, Indiana for sending money to build “greenhouses”, the ground and initial construction had begun prior to the teams arrival so that their time could be spent preparing the ground for plants and then planting. There are a total of 3 greenhouses. The dirt had to be cleaned and mixed with manure to make suitable soil where they then planted tomatoes and kale seeds.

The Agriculture class at Point of Grace will be helping and learning through the year on this project under the guidance of teachers and our farm manager.

The vegetable garden now consists of the irrigated gardens that were put in during 2016 and early 2017 raising skumawiki and other vegetables as well.
